ESMA:
Updated ESEF Reporting Manual Published

On September 6, 2023, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) published an update to its ESEF reporting manual on the single European electronic format (ESEF Reporting Manual). The last update was made about a year ago.

The update brings, for example, the following technical improvements:

  • Clarification of the formats of the images embedded in the xHTML document,
  • updating the references to the Data Type Registry,
  • clarification of the position on the application of the Calculations 1.1 specification, and
  • Fixing previously identified bugs.

The Reporting Manual explains how the elements included in the 2023 IFRS Taxonomy Update can be used on a voluntary basis using the enhancement mechanism. s can be used.

Furthermore, the Reporting Manual provides additional guidance regarding the implementation of block tagging requirements and the expected level of readability of the information extracted from a block tag.

Consideration when preparing annual financial reports for 2023

ESMA expects issuers to follow the guidance provided in the Reporting Manual when preparing their annual financial reports for 2023. Software companies are also expected to take into account the guidance in the Reporting Manual when developing software used for the preparation of annual financial reports in inline XBRL format.
