Accountancy Europe:
General Assembly Elects Prof. Dr Jens Poll as New Deputy President

In their General Assembly in Brussels on 14 December 2022, the member organisations of Accountancy Europe (ACE) elected WP/StB/RA FAfStR Prof. Dr Jens Poll as Deputy President from January 2023.

Prof. Dr Poll has already been the representative of the German profession in the ACE management body since 2019 – the Board – and after his two-year period of office as Deputy President will be the new President of ACE from January 2025. After WP/StB Prof. Dr Edelfried Schneider, who held the presidency in 2017 and 2018, a German representative will once again be at the head of ACE from 2025.

WPK wishes Professor Poll every success in his new duties.

Four New Vice Presidents

In addition, four Vice Presidents were elected: David Matthews (United Kingdom/1st period of office), Nina Rafen (Nordic Federation: Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark/2nd period of office), Giancarlo Attolini (Italy/1st period of office) and Luis Martin Riaño (Spain/1st period of office).

Strategy Plan 2023 to 2024

A further focus of the Assembly as to discuss and approve the ACE Strategy Plan for 2023 to 2024. This is entitled Delivering Value to the people, planet and profession and has the following three priorities:

  • Sustainability Transition
  • Continuation of the Corporate Governance System (role of the profession)
  • Future of the Profession (attractiveness, trust).

Other Activities

In particular, the following subjects that are currently being pursued are also planned as other activities that can support the above-mentioned strategic priorities.

  • Corporate Reporting
  • SMEs – Less Complex Entities (LCE)
  • Tax
  • Money Laundering
  • Public Sector
  • Role of Professional Organisations
  • Ethics
  • Digitisation

In addition, the Members’ Assembly adopted the budget for 2023.

Study on Implementing the EU Audit Reform of 2014

Otherwise, the Members’ Assembly discussed current challenges facing the profession, in particular implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and a possible EU reform of auditing. In connection with the latter subject, a representative of the EU Commission presented an overview of the CEPS Study, which examines implementation of the 2014 EU reform of auditing.

The WPK was represented at the Members’ Assembly by President Andreas Dörschell and Executive Director Dr Michael Hüning.
