Sanctions against Russia due to the war of aggression against Ukraine:
Accountancy, auditing, bookkeeping, and tax advice prohibited for legal entities domiciled in Russia

According to new EU legislation, it is prohibited to provide direct or indirect services in the fields of auditing, including accountancy, bookkeeping and tax advice as well as business and public relations consultancy for the Russian government or legal entities, organisations or institutions domiciled in Russia.

This is provided for by Article 5n of Regulation (EU) No. 833/2014 (introduced with Council Amendment Regulation (EU) 2022/879, cf. Official Journal of the EU of 3 June 2022).

Regulation part of the EU’s sixth package of sanctions

This regulation is part of the EU’s sixth package of sanctions. This package of sanctions and thus the prohibition on auditing services for Russian companies was announced by the President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in a speech on 4 May 2022. It was only adopted by the European heads of government (European Council) on 30 May 2022. The package was controversial because it is associated with sanctions connected to oil supplies from Russia.
